Gathering some ideas for this block association.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. This one is going to be relatively quick.

I think we’ve built a good base of subscribers to this block association at this point, and so I think it’s time that we start really gathering ideas about initiatives we can undertake. When I say initiatives we can undertake, I don’t really mean “quality of life” concerns that will result in us identifying a problem via strongly worded letter or email and asking someone else to solve it. See Bylaws (there are only two). That stuff doesn’t really get me going and isn’t really the point of this.

To get the juices flowing, here are some ideas that I’ve heard over the last month from block residents:

  • Periodic group dinners or gatherings in people’s apartments or on rooftops. I think the block is aware at this point that I have a rooftop on which I’m willing to host.

  • Morning walks or workouts or stretches. (Note: I’m in the process right now of trying to change myself from a night owl to an early bird, so most mornings around 7:30am you can probably find me in Chelsea Park lazily and quietly jumping rope or stretching around).

  • Fixing the parking situation on 28th Street. I don’t have a car, but I gather from block residents that the parking situation here is rather restrictive.

  • Scheduling a block clean-up or adopting a downtrodden tree pit on our block.

  • Throwing a block party. This is already in the works and is currently scheduled for early October. It will take place on a street lower in Chelsea.

So let me know your thoughts. The only catch is you’ve got to actively help if you propose something.
