Quick mid-week update.
Congratulations everybody for making it to Wednesday. The weekend is just about in sight. This will be a short mid-week update.
First, regarding our community garden idea for the lot on 29th Street & 10th Avenue, on Monday I walked the High Line with an individual named Mauricio Garcia, who is the Chief Program and Engagement Officer at the nonprofit organization “Friends of the High Line” (i.e., the organization responsible for making the High Line happen in the first place). We had a good conversation and Mauricio expressed some preliminary interest in potentially partnering with us on our proposed garden. This is progress, my friends, one small step down the High Line at a time. I now owe Mauricio a little write-up of what we plan to do with the lot and how we think Friends of the High Line could help. Also, in passing, Mauricio informed me that the High Line is planning to build an elevated walkway proceeding west down 30th Street that would essentially connect the High Line to Moynihan Train Hall, which is the new train station right next to Penn Station that will house Amtrak and the Long Island Rail Road. Rendering above. I did not know this.
Second, in our last update, I said that we were targeting this weekend for a gallery walk around Chelsea. Well I messed that up because I had to put this whole block initiative aside for a week while I tried to keep my head above water at work. We’ll come back to the gallery walk because I do think there was a fair amount of interest in the idea.
Third, it is supposed to rain all weekend, but Thursday is supposed to feel like summer. So I will probably go on the roof of my building at 507 West Chelsea from like 7-9pm on Thursday and do nothing in particular other than have a drink. You are welcome to join, though let me know if you are planning to.
