Some initial thoughts on getting this block association off the ground (and half-plans, violently executed).
I came across this quote recently by George Bernard Shaw: “a good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan executed next week.” I think that has to apply to getting this block association off the ground. So it’s probably about time to take this half-finished project live.
The purpose of this block association is to bring our block together a little bit. Why? The reality is that I was cancelling plans, social distancing, and not knowing my neighbors before I had pandemic-related excuses for doing so. I suspect that has something to do with how comfortable and convenient it is for me to just sit in my apartment and scroll on my phone. But what if instead of cancelling plans with my friend who lives 30 minutes away in Brooklyn, I’m faced with cancelling plans with my friend who lives in the building and who wants to grab a quick drink at Death Ave? I have a feeling both you and I are more likely to follow through on the Death Ave plan.
At bottom, this block association is an effort to get to know our neighbors. You have nothing to lose, almost nothing to expend, and, in my view, a lot to gain by becoming a member or just hanging around on the forum.
More thoughts to come.
